Data science internships at Slack are a unique opportunity for those that wish to gain hands-on experience working with data at a fast-moving company. Data scientists at Slack inform and influence decisions using data and research by crafting our findings into narratives and partnering with key decision makers within the company. In addition, as an intern, you will have access to resources and events to help you grow both professionally and personally. Throughout your internship, you will be part of events including Executive Speaker Series, AMAs, Volunteer Time Off, Workshops, and Socials. What You Will Be Doing Defining end-to-end product data science projects with your mentor and product partner. Conducting actionable analysis by crafting your own data sets and using a variety of data science methodologies. Collaborating with your product partner to connect the analysis results to actionable product recommendations. Presenting your findings and recommendations to relevant product, design, and engineering stakeholders to guide the team’s decision making. Soliciting and incorporating feedback on your work from your mentor, other data scientists, and multi-functional team members throughout your mentorship. What You Should Have Must be graduating December 2025 or later. Currently pursuing an advanced (MS, PhD, or equivalent) degree in a quantitative field. Preferred candidates are pursuing advanced degrees in economics, computer science, statistics, math, engineering, etc. Excellent data coding skills (Python or R, SQL). Excellent statistical foundation knowledge that covers the foundational components of modern data science, including experimentation, causal inference, segmentation, statistical and machine learning models, etc. Excellent communication skills and the ability to tell a complete narrative using data. Ability to connect data analysis to real business problems to impact business decision making. Must have prior experience (e.g., intern experience) applying data results to practical business problems.
