Summary or Purpose
Under the direction of the school principal and/or assistant principal, the teacher is responsible for the implementation of research-based instructional strategies that direct the learning process and achievement of assigned students by developing, nurturing, and sustaining a school and classroom culture conducive to student learning.
All instruction provided for students will be individualized. This means that differences in individual learning style, rate of learning, level of maturation, and level of achievement will provide the basis for instructional decision-making. To respond to these differences, it is expected that teachers will vary materials, rate of instruction, and methodology and these modifications will be based upon frequent assessment.
Minimum Qualification Requirements

•Master's Degree in Education required.
•A person with a Bachelor's Degree may bring in six (6) years of experience
•Alaska Teacher Certificate required.
•Minimum of three years of successful counseling experience preferred.
•Inupiaq, Language, History & Culture experience preferred.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Communicate effectively with students, parents and all staff members. Provide individual and/or small group sessions in identified area(s). Provide classroom presentations, management support, and crisis intervention as needed. Provide follow-up documentation as per NSBSD policy.
Implement and/or coordinate programs, training and services on topics such as substance abuse, suicide prevention/ intervention, School wide Positive Behavior Interventions & Supports, tobacco, alcohol, etc. as determined appropriate by NSBSD administration. Assist in maintaining on-site up-to-date cumulative files with appropriate documentation. Oversee graduation status, alternative school options, and dual credits.
Coordinate the development of a career portfolio for 6th through 12th grade students. Assist students in post-secondary planning and provide career education.
Take an active role and maintain the site's On-the-job training programs (OJT, Job Shadowing, etc.).
Attend IEP meetings, as appropriate, and provide services and supports for social/emotional and transition services as identified by the IEP Team.
Develop on-going communications with outside Agencies to facilitate referrals and support for families and students.
Promote and support School District Strategic Goals as developed by the Board of Education.
Participate in the activities of educational committees and organizations for the benefit of personal growth and the general promotion of the profession.
Develop an awareness of local culture and provide instruction that is bicultural or multicultural by responding to diverse community interests and needs.
Abide by the code of ethics and the professional standards adopted by the Professional Teaching Practice Commission of the Alaska and the Alaska School Counselor's Association (American School Counselors Association).
Adhere to all District policies and regulations.
Perform such other tasks and assume other responsibilities as the supervisor may assign.

The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 40 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
