Job Summary The Minnesota Board of Nursing exists to protect the public's health and safety through regulation of nursing education, licensure and practice. The Board conducts business through five major service areas: credentialing, education, discipline/complaint resolution, nursing practice and data. The Paralegal position supports public health and safety by providing paralegal and administrative support to the Board of Nursing in the disciplinary program related to Board meetings. Responsibilities include but are not limited to: Develop and administer procedures for assembling, compiling and preparing timely and accurate documentation about disciplinary matters for Board review and decision making. Perform legal research to identify and find laws and regulations pertaining to the administrative law process of the board meetings and to the documents prepared for the board meetings. Draftand prepare legal documents, correspondence, and other follow-up materials. Coordinate documentation and correspondence. Review documents for accuracy and disseminatetoprofessional staff for further review. Apply necessary edits as requested and proof final copies. Process allwritten complaintsand prioritize next steps following established procedures for preparing cases. Track status of documents, prepare individual case summary sheet of information and other case materials, and follow up as appropriate. Ensure Board disciplinary actions are documented, communicated, filed and recorded according to established procedures. Maintain accurate, up-to-date statistical data on all Board actions taken. Perform other administrative support services for the Practice/Discipline team as assigned. Qualifications Minimum Qualifications Completion of formal paralegal or legal assistant coursework from an accredited program and two years of experience working as a paralegal or legal assistant OR three years of experience working as a paralegal or legal assistant. Knowledge of court procedures, legal terminology, legal document formatting, and proper citation in order to properly draft and file legal documents. Ability to handle a large volume of work while maintaining accuracy and meeting deadlines. Ability to effectively communicate in writing and verbally. Proficiency in Microsoft Word andExcel and other application software such as Adobe products. Strong organizational skills, sufficient to identify and address priorities. Ability to maintain confidentiality. Preferred Qualifications Experience communicating with others orally and in writing regarding complex and sensitive or confidential matters. Experience usingmedical terminology or knowledge of medical terminology. Experience working in a clinical or nursing-related setting.
