Job Description
OVERHEAD CRANE OPERATOR
GENERAL FUNCTION:
Under the direction of the Production Manager, is responsible for transporting, inspecting, and troubleshooting overhead cranes. This includes binding and securing loads to overhead cranes, inspecting machinery and equipment to make sure they function properly, and follow safety guidelines and protocols. Performs any other duties as required.
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES/FUNCTIONS:
· Follow safety guidelines and protocols
· Operation of overhead cranes using pedals, levers, or buttons
· Move steel or other objects from one location to another, or load or unload steel from tractor trailers.
· Work with maintenance supervisor to ensure completion of repairs.
· Perform necessary analysis and preparation for crane operation including daily inspection lists.
· Follow all company safety rules, procedures, and practices.
· Communicate the need for repairs, problems, or issues with equipment or location
· Keeps records of the preventive maintenance inspection, repair, and modification for all equipment.
· Ensure compliance with OSHA regulations
· Effectively communicate to production team members, management, and other departments.
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
1. Minimum of 2 years of overhead crane experience.
2. Must be 18 years or older.
3. Knowledge of OSHA regulations.
4. Must know how to read, write, and have basic math skills.
5. Must be able to pass written and hands-on testing on initial qualification and every 3 years thereafter.
6. Can identify existing or potential hazards in surroundings and in working conditions.
7. Must use their knowledge to take prompt corrective actions to eliminate hazards.
8. Must have the ability to understand signs, labels, and instructions.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
1. Must be able to lift, pull, tug, kneel, bend, stoop, climb, and walk up to 10 hours per day.
2. Must be able to lift at least 50 pounds frequently, 25 pounds occasionally, and 10 pounds constantly.
3. Have corrected or normal vision that meets the requirements for a valid state driver’s license.
4. Have coordination between eyes, hands, and feet.
