As a Litigation Associate Attorney, you will be an integral part of our dedicated legal team, representing governmental entities in federal and state courts in matters with a primary focus on defense of Illinois school districts. Your responsibility will be to provide expert legal counsel, conduct litigation, and advocate on behalf of our clients to ensure the protection of those clients in compliance with relevant laws and regulations. The ideal candidate will also have experience representing local public entities and/or private employers in employment matters and experience conducting civil litigation. This position is based in our Northbrook, Illinois office. As an integral part of our team, you will have the opportunity to: Represent Illinois public schools and school districts in federal and state courts in Civil Rights Litigation matters, Illinois School Code, Title VII, Title IX, the Family Education Rights and Privacy Act, the Illinois Human Rights Act, The Americans with Disabilities Act, the Illinois Freedom of Information Act, the Illinois Open Meetings Act, the Illinois Governmental and Governmental Employees Tort Immunity Act and other issues involving students, staff and school boards. Conduct legal research, analysis, and case strategy development. Draft and file legal documents, argue substantive motions, and take and defend depositions. Prepare and assist in trial proceedings. Collaborate with senior attorneys and clients to develop litigation strategies. Counsel school clients on legal issues related to their day-to-day operations. Maintain accurate and up-to-date case records and documentation. Engage in settlement negotiations when appropriate. Provide legal advice and guidance to clients on civil rights issues. Required Skills/Abilities: Juris Doctor (JD)degree from an accredited law school. Active membership in the Illinois State Bar. 2+years of experience representing and advising school districts in their day-to-day operations. Trial experience is a plus. Strong legal research and writing skills. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Self-starter and ability to work in a fast-paced environment. Willingness to travel within the state of Illinois as required.
