Job Description:

The Corporate Controller/CFO is responsible for the oversight of the Accounting Department and to ensure that all GAAP are followed. The Controller will also have financial oversight of the facilities as the conscience of the company.

Job Responsibilities:

The Controller/CFO position is responsible for the accounting operations of the company, to include the production of periodic financial reports, maintenance of an adequate system of accounting records, and a comprehensive set of controls and budgets designed to mitigate risk, enhance the accuracy of the company's reported financial results, and ensure that reported results comply with generally accepted accounting principles. The Controller/CFO also has primary responsibility for funding the operations of subsidiary companies, including wire transfers to cover expenses, at the direction of the President of the company.

Duties and Day-to-Day Responsibilities, but not limited to the following:

Management

  • Maintain a documented system of accounting policies and procedures.
  • Oversee the operations of the accounting department, including the design of an organizational structure adequate for achieving the department's goals and objectives.
  • Oversee the accounting operations of subsidiary corporations, especially their control systems, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and payroll transaction-processing operations.
  • Manage all employees in the Accounting Department.
  • Establishes, or recommends to management, major corporate economic strategies, objectives, and policies for the company.
  • Provides management with timely reviews of an organizations financial status and progress in its various programs and activities.
  • Advises management about insurance coverage for protection against property losses and potential liabilities.

Reporting

  • Issue timely and complete financial statements.
  • Coordinate the preparation of the corporate annual report.
  • Recommend benchmarks against which to measure the performance of company operations.
  • Calculate and issue financial and operating metrics.
  • Manage the production of the annual budget and forecasts.
  • Determine variances from the budget and report them to management, particularly significant ones.
  • Provide a system of management cost reports, particularly for inventory and cost of goods sold.
  • Provide financial analyses as needed, in particular for capital investments, pricing decisions, and contract negotiations.

Transactions

  • Ensure that Accounts Payable are paid in a timely manner.
  • Ensure that all reasonable discounts are taken on accounts payable.
  • Ensure that Accounts Receivable are collected promptly.
  • Ensure that monthly bank reconciliations are completed and reviewed.
  • Ensure that required debt payments are made on a timely basis.
  • Maintain the chart of accounts in the accounting system.
  • Maintain an orderly accounting filing system, to include proper documentation for journal entries.
  • Maintain a system of controls over accounting transactions.

Compliance

  • Coordinate the provision of information to external auditors for the annual audit.
  • Monitor debt levels and compliance with debt covenants.
  • Comply with local, state, and federal government reporting requirements and tax filings, including state and Federal income, payroll withholding and sales taxes.
  • Establishes relations with banks and other financial institutions.

Minimum Training, Education, and Experience Requirements:

The Controller candidate should have a Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance or business administration, and 10+ years of progressively responsible experience in a manufacturing environment, preferably in a food manufacturing or related industry. The successful candidate will also be highly computer proficient with experience in MS Office Suite (Access and Excel), Dynamics Great Plains, and/or other accounting programs.

Work Environment:

This position works primarily in an office environment. Will be expected to travel as needed to company subsidiaries, as well as to potential M&A partners to conduct due diligence. Periodic weekend or evening work is expected.
