Conflicts Analyst

Wheeler Trigg O’Donnell was established in 1998, and currently numbers more than 100 lawyers. Summary/Objective

The Conflicts Analyst works closely with the firm’s General Counsel and Conflicts Staff Counsel to help ensure the firm avoids and manages conflicts of interest in compliance with the Colorado Rules of Professional Conduct and firm policies. The firm seeks candidates with exceptional time-management skills, attention to detail, and a commitment to producing consistently excellent work.

  • Works under the daily supervision of the firm’s Conflicts Staff Counsel with a focus on conflicts clearance, data entry, opening new matters, and general matter management.
  • Performs an initial evaluation of all matters submitted for conflicts checks, reviews and revises information in the conflicts check as needed (including accessing state and federal court systems to obtain additional information when necessary), generates conflicts reports, performs preliminary conflicts clearance, and circulates information firm-wide regarding new matters.
  • Performs due diligence on new clients and assists with other investigative and research projects related to conflicts clearance.
  • Responsible for entering matters into the firm’s systems, quality checking the data, and correcting the data as needed.
  • The ability to communicate orally with vendors, co-workers and management is critical, as is regular use of phone and email for communication.
  • Hearing and vision correctable to within normal ranges is necessary for normal conversations, receiving information and preparing or inspecting documents.
  • Must be able to use a computer while sitting for extended periods.
  • In addition to daily tasks related to conflicts clearance and new matter opening, this role will manage several long-term projects related to case closing, engagement letters and waivers, ethical walls, outside counsel guidelines, and other data tracked and monitored by the firm.
  • Assists with other projects as assigned from time to time by the firm’s General Counsel and Conflicts Staff Counsel related to conflicts and file management.
  • Supports various firm efforts related to loss prevention as assigned by the firm’s General Counsel. Works closely with the firm’s General Counsel in a support role.
  • Communicates regularly with lawyers and other professional staff in relation to opening of new matters and conflicts clearance.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Minimum of two years’ experience working in a law firm, non-profit, or government agency that handles litigation matters
  • Experience with law firm data entry and practice management software
  • Proficient in MS Office Suite; strong research skills, and proven aptitude to learn new software applications
  • Advanced oral and written communication skills, including the ability to understand, analyze, and prepare complex reports, and to converse with attorneys and staff about conflicts issues
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions
  • Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions and work effectively to provide quality work product, often while under tight deadline pressure
  • Proficient in researching cases on PACER, Westlaw, and other state based electronic court filing systems

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

Usual work hours are full-time, Monday to Friday 8:30 a.m. – 5:30 p.m. (one-hour lunch). This is a non-exempt position, and is eligible for overtime pay. A hybrid remote/in-office schedule may be available.

Salary Range: $75,000 to $90,000 annually. The final salary will be commensurate with education and experience. Additionally, the firm provides standard benefits including health insurance, 401(k) contribution, and paid time off, with annual bonus potential based on firm performance.
