Job Description

Our client is a growing, community-focused organization dedicated to agriculture, manufacturing, small business, and overall growth. They are seeking an experienced, strategic, and results-driven Chief Operating Officer (COO) to lead operational efforts and support their mission of sustainable growth in rural America. As they continue to expand their impact, they are seeking a dynamic leader to drive operational excellence and align their business practices with long-term goals.

Position Overview : The Chief Operating Officer (COO) is responsible for overseeing the daily operational functions of the bank, ensuring the efficient management of all internal processes, systems, and resources. The COO collaborates closely with the CEO and other executive leaders to implement the bank's strategic vision and business objectives. This role involves driving operational excellence, improving customer experience, ensuring compliance with industry regulations, and managing the bank's operational risk.

Key Responsibilities :

  • Operational Leadership : Oversee day-to-day operations, ensuring efficiency, productivity, and scalability in a rural setting.
  • Strategic Planning : Partner with the CEO and leadership team to develop and implement the company’s long-term strategy, ensuring operational alignment with overall business goals.
  • Team Development : Lead, mentor, and grow teams across departments such as production, logistics, and customer service, fostering a collaborative and high-performance culture.
  • Process Optimization : Identify and implement best practices, process improvements, and cost-saving measures, while maintaining high-quality service standards.
  • Demonstrate Effective Credit Management: Decisively lead the residential real estate and consumer lending functions of credit application and underwriting procedures through training, mentoring, coaching, appraising, and correction, when necessary, to ensure practices align with bank loan policies within evolving regulatory framework
  • Rural Market Focus : Tailor operational strategies to the unique needs of rural communities, understanding regional challenges, and ensuring alignment with local workforce capabilities.
  • Financial Oversight : Manage budgeting, forecasting, and financial reporting for operational areas to ensure resources are allocated effectively.
  • Compliance and Risk Management : Ensure the organization’s compliance with federal, state, and local regulations while managing risk associated with operations, particularly in rural infrastructure.
  • Stakeholder Engagement : Build strong relationships with key stakeholders, including local governments, community organizations, and other regional partners.
  • Technology Integration : Leverage technology to streamline operations, improve customer experience, and enhance data-driven decision-making.

Qualifications :

  • Education and Experience:
  • Possess a degree from a nationally accredited post-secondary educational institution in a field of study preparing a candidate to proficiently perform the accountabilities of the role of Chief Operating Officer.

Possess at least 15 years of banking experience, with at least 5 years of progressive management related experience preparing a candidate to proficiently perform the duties required as a Chief Operating Officer. This includes previous management of branches, preferably multiple branch management experience, along with managing multiple employees. Strong knowledge of banking regulations, risk management and compliance standards.

  • Communication: Demonstrated use of communication to understand and correctly interpret information and ideas presented through non-verbal, verbal and written modes as well as to convey information and ideas professionally to diverse individuals and groups through presentation of words, actions, and documentation.
  • Technology: Demonstrated use of computers, Microsoft Office Suite software, internet, and other electronic means to gather and disseminate information; communicate with colleagues and customers; construct and revise Word and Excel documents; and store and retrieve data.
  • Economics and Accounting: Demonstrated use of economic and accounting principles/practices, financial market/banking analysis, and succinct/accurate reporting of financial data.
  • Programs: Preferred familiarity with rural economic development programs or initiatives.
