GENERAL DESCRIPTION/PURPOSE

The Behavior Support Specialist is responsible for helping support children who have a DSM-5 Diagnosis or IDD and/or Autism Spectrum Disorder and providing behavior analysis and health consultations. The Behavior Support Specialist will develop and monitor crisis intervention plans implement treatment plans and maintain progress reports for each of these plans.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

− Contribute to RCSA’s mission and program philosophies by way of quality of performance and professionalism with both internal and external parties.

− Adhere to all current federal and state laws/regulations, as well as internal procedures, including the safeguarding of confidential healthcare information following the Health Insurance Portability & Accountability Act (HIPAA).

− Immediately report any suspected instances of abuse or neglect to the treatment director or present administrative team member. Additional reporting to the Child Abuse Hotline will also be required no later than 24 hours after you become aware of the incident.

− Establish healthy relationships and communications with the client’s caseworkers/probation officers, Ad-Litems, CASA Advocates, Family Members, and any other party deemed necessary to ensure quality of care.

− Actively participate in agency quality assurance activities including performance and outcomes reviews, case record reviews, incident reviews, and improvement planning.

− Demonstrate an awareness and respect for diverse cultures and the individual differences of clients and fellow employees.

− Maintain all training requirements for professional licensure and RCSA regulations.

− Attend staff/agency meetings as required.

− Complete other duties as assigned.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

Program:

− Ensure compliance with regulatory standards as well as RCSA’s internal policies and procedures.

− Make recommendations for program and treatment model improvements.

− Report to the Treatment Director (or other administrative team member) as necessary regarding support services, personal issues, fiscal considerations, etc.

− Attend all meetings and trainings as required.

Client:

− Become responsible for the day-to-day implementation and execution of the behavioral health plan detailed within RCSA’s treatment model for all clients within the caseload.

− Assist the treatment director in evaluating the behavioral health and present developmental level of new intakes within 72 hours of placement to determine initial treatment needs.

− Develop an initial behavioral health plan, within 7 days of intake, and update the plan every 90 days to include additional treatment curriculum added by the RCSA clinical team, areas for continued support, appropriate clinical interventions/objectives/ and goals that can be measured and observed.

− Provide clinical skills instruction and behavioral modifications based upon the principles of the RCSAs treatment model.

− Carefully track and record data related to client progress within the treatment model and update the information within the client's informational sheet weekly.

− Coordinate with caregivers, monitor their implementation of the treatment model, and provide training to the caregivers to ensure continuity of care amongst RCSA residential staff.

− Assist in the creation of Behavioral Intervention Plans and oversee their implementation amongst RCSA’s residential staff.

− Assist with managing and redirecting maladaptive behavior and facilitate training on RCSA's behavioral management protocols with residential staff.

− Provide support and crisis management services as needed or as requested by the supervisor. This will include on-call crisis intervention requirements to be split amongst therapists and behavioral support specialists

− Participate in case staffings with other service providers and the client’s internal treatment team.

− Implement behavioral modifications within the treatment model curriculum under the direction of the treatment director.

− Facilitate the acquisition of compliance-based skills, daily life skills, and behavioral health skills amongst the target population.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

− Must be 21 years of age or older and have favorable findings on background checks to include the Texas Department of Public Safety, Texas Department of Health, and Texas Department of Family and Protective Services criminal record checks, driving record checks, and test negative for drug test and TB screening.

− Comfortability providing services to children with a DSM-5 diagnosis of Intellectual or Developmental Disability (IDD) and/or Autism Spectrum Disorder, and who require structured and frequent, on-site therapy and clinical intervention, and complex care coordination and case management services to support and manage day-to-day activities. And/ or new children to care and:

 transitioning from an unpaid placement, with suspected but unconfirmed, or confirmed behavioral health need(s)

 Transitioning after a stay in a psychiatric hospital

 Returning to foster care after an unauthorized absence, or unauthorized placement, with a suspected but unconfirmed, or confirmed behavioral health need(s)

 Transitioning based on a recent, un-planned disruption in placement, where a suspected but unconfirmed, or confirmed behavioral health need(s) was a factor contributing to the disruption

− A bachelor’s degree in psychology or related field.

− Experience with trauma-informed care and behavioral intervention is preferred.

− A minimum of one year of experience working with children, families, and other individuals with behavioral health issues.

− A minimum of one year of experience working with children with Autism or Intellectual Developmental Disabilities Is preferred.

− Bi-lingual, Spanish speaking is preferred.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES

• A strong clinical knowledge of industry trends related to service delivery for children, adolescents, and young adults.

• Experience with youth in a foster or adoptive setting and knowledge of the DFPS system is preferred.

• Knowledge of Autism and Intellectual Developmental Disabilities, as well as service delivery standards for these populations.
